Open your windows, take a deep breath of fresh mountain air and let your gaze wander over the peaks of the Hohe Tauern towards the Krimml Waterfalls: A perfect start to the day at Alpengasthof Filzstein. Then you are spoilt for choice: mountain hike, summit tour, leisurely walk or collect points for the hiking needle?

Krimml waterfalls hike

The hiking highlight of the region between Gerlos in Zillertal and Krimml in Pinzgau is a hike to and along the Krimml Waterfalls.

The Krimml Waterfalls are an impressive natural spectacle: the waterfall in the High Tauern National Park plunges 380 meters over three cascades. The Krimmler Achental valley is located above the Krimml Waterfalls. Here, the Krimmler Ache meanders leisurely from its source through beautiful alpine landscapes before plunging into the depths at the head of the valley. A steep path leads along the highest waterfalls in Europe up to the Krimmler Achental. Tips for hikes can be found in the section “Hiking paradise Krimmler Achental”.

The waterfalls in Krimml are not only a special natural spectacle, they also have a healing effect, which is why the region is popular for health vacations.

Tip: In winter, you can experience the Krimml waterfalls at night on a romantic torch-lit hike. Once you arrive at the foot of the waterfalls, an illuminated natural spectacle and a musical greeting await you (registration required at the Krimml tourist office Tel. +43 6564 72390).

Hiking paradise Krimmler Achental

The Krimmler Achental valley is one of the most beautiful high valleys in the Hohe Tauern National Park. This is where the waterfalls originate. After the last waterfall stage, the path becomes flat and the valley with its alpine meadows and mountain peaks spreads out. Various tours lead to rustic mountain pastures, alpine huts such as the Warnsdorfer Hütte (2,336 meters) and summits with great views.

On your hike, you can watch cows, horses, sheep and goats grazing and taste various alpine delicacies such as cheese, butter and milk on the alpine pastures. Our tour highlights for you:

Veitn Alm - hike for pleasure-seekers from Krimml along the Krimml waterfalls

You start directly in Krimmel and walk over the 3 steps of the Krimml Waterfalls while enjoying the magnificent view. Richterhütte - challenging tour to Krimml Waterfalls, Veitn Alm, Krimmler Tauernhaus
