National Park High Tauern

The National Park High Tauern (Hohe Tauern) is the largest national park in the Alpine region and one of the largest protected areas in Central Europe. It spans an area of more than 1,800 km² across the federal states of Salzburg, Tyrol, and Carinthia. From the valleys to the summit regions of the three-thousand-meter peaks, the national park region is characterized by an extraordinary diversity of species. Here also lies Austria's highest mountain: the 3,798-meter-tall Grossglockner.
